Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra XXL Small Seconds Watch
Pretty much any new Omega watch with the word “Speedmaster or Seamaster” will get lots of consumer attention. Especially in China where Omega is currently enjoying particularly high demand. New in the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection is this Seamaster Aqua Terra XXL Small Seconds watch. While I like this piece, I am utterly distracted by the two major contradictions in the name. I just realized that it makes no sense to put “aqua” (water) next to “terra” (land). But then again this is where the term “Omega Planet Ocean” must have come from. Then you have “XXL” right next to the word “Small.” Am I the only one that is distracted by that?
Speaking of small, these watches are not that. This Seamaster Aqua Terra XXL is a full 49.2mm wide. That is quite large for an Omega. Plus, the relatively clean face gives the watch a more expansive feel to it. The case is available in steel, or an 18k gold alloy called orange gold. Just what we needed, another gold color. The watch dials are a dark gray with that new vertical “teak” texture that Omega has been playing with. It helps keep the open dial from feeling too bare. Omega also has their juxtaposed “Broad Arrow” hands so that the minute hand has the arrow, not the hour hand.
Inside the watch is a COSC Chronometer certified Omega Caliber 2211 automatic movement with a small seconds dial (which hearkens to marine chronometers in style). I would have liked for the watch to have the date as well. Strap is alligator with red stitching on the inside. The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra XXL Small Seconds watch isn’t bad. You’ll need to love the size to be into the watch, which is not bad as a new addition to the Aqua Terra collection.
